Latest Green500 Results Establish GPU Accelerator Advantage vs. CPUs, All Other Accelerators for Energy Efficient, High Performance Supercomputing
SANTA CLARA, Calif.- June 28, 2013 - NVIDIA today announced that NVIDIA® Tesla® GPU accelerators are powering the world's two most energy efficient supercomputers, based on the latest Green500 list published today.
The winning system is ‘Eurora' at CINECA, Italy's largest supercomputing center, in Casalecchio di Reno. Equipped with NVIDIA KeplerTM architecture-based GPU accelerators - the highest-performance, most efficient accelerators ever built - Eurora delivers 3,210 MFlops per watt, making it 2.6 times more energy efficient than the best system using Intel CPUs alone (at Météo France). It also greatly surpasses the most efficient Intel Xeon Phi accelerator-based system, ‘Beacon,' at the National Institute for Computational Sciences, at the University of Tennessee.
The number-two system on the June 2013 Green500 list is the ‘Aurora Tigon' supercomputer at the Selex ES facilities Chieti, Italy.
These top two systems are powered by advanced Eurotech high-performance ‘Aurora' servers, equipped with NVIDIA Tesla K20 GPU accelerators.
More broadly, NVIDIA Kepler GPU accelerator-based systems in the top 100 spots on the Green500 list are 50 percent more energy efficient on average than the latest Intel Xeon Phi-based systems.
Following last week's ISC 2013 Student Cluster Challenge in which NVIDIA GPU accelerator-based systems swept the top four spots for energy efficient supercomputing, NVIDIA GPUs again demonstrated why they are most preferred accelerator solution among developers, system designers, and computational researchers.
"Raw performance is no longer the exclusive measure of the value and impact of supercomputers," said Sumit Gupta, general manager of the Tesla Accelerated Computing Business Unit at NVIDIA. "All future systems will need to deliver higher performance with reduced power consumption. With GPU accelerators in the top two spots, the latest Green500 list demonstrates accelerators' ability to deliver unmatched levels of energy-efficient supercomputer performance for next-generation systems."
By delivering thousands of small energy efficient cores operating in parallel, GPU accelerators are considerably more energy efficient than standard CPUs. These GPU cores are optimised to run the compute-intensive portions of applications, while general-purpose CPU cores, which process in serial, are highly inefficient when running compute-intensive applications.

Bamboo Loop: Keep friends and family in the loop with Wacom’s new app
Wacom today announces Bamboo Loop - a new app for iPhone and iPod Touch. It combines principles of photo sharing and messaging in a unique and fun way: digital, paper-like photocards are sent ("looped") to friends, family members and close colleagues.
Unlike many apps in which a photo is added separately to a text message, in Bamboo Loop photos take centre stage and can be illustrated and personalised with the built-in editing tools. Sketch, scribble or write on the photo with the finger or a Bamboo Stylus, loop it back to the creator, send it on to someone new or share it with social networks. Everyone can be creative.
The basic card within the app is a photograph framed with a white border; very handy for personal messages. A style browser offers a choice of different backgrounds, card shapes, patterns, photo filters, colour palettes and effects, enabling users to easily create cards with a nostalgic, artistic or fun feel. Basic styles are free, with the option to purchase additional styles in-app from the Loop Style Gallery priced at £1.49 per pack of four.
Scribbles, drawings or messages can be written on the card in various colours. Zooming in on details is done with a pinch, which allows for detailed drawings. Photographs of mundane objects come alive and old photos can be given the creative treatment.
Bamboo Loop is simply a great way to keep loved ones in the loop. Users can communicate with each other as the digital cards can be fully modified before being passed on to friends. The "Bamboo Loop Like" comes in the form of a smiley face which means users can let friends know if they like the picture. Currently the app works as a one-on-one communication loop, but cards can be shared with a wider group of friends by posting them on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Loop is also ideal as visual blogging tool for users of Tumblr.
Bamboo Loop combines the best of both worlds; a creative photo sharing tool, that also works as a personal messaging service, letting people talk one-on-one.

The adaptive array transceiver technology, using 64 antenna elements, can be a viable solution for overcoming the radio propagation loss at millimetre-wave bands, much higher than the conventional frequency bands ranging from several hundred MHz to several GHz.

Acer's latest advertising campaign follows Tiësto's Personal Assitant, Vernon, using his Aspire P3 to turn into a Superstar DJ.
New York, (May 3, 2013), Acer today announced the launch of its latest advertising campaign featuring the world famous Superstar DJ, Tiësto and his personal assistant Vernon. Continuing the theme from the 2012 campaigns with Kiefer Sutherland and Megan Fox, the new campaign looks at how our characters use their Acer devices to explore beyond limits and to uncover a different side of themselves.
"For us, advertising is a way to complement our products with a great story that reflects what people love about them: the new experiences they make possible," said Michael Birkin, Chief Marketing Officer. "After last year's campaign we were convinced we were headed in the right direction and we wanted to expand on our story-telling approach.
