Sony Wins inaugural Guardian Sustainable Business!

Sony has been awarded the prestigious Guardian Sustainable Business Award, which recognises and rewards innovative sustainability practices.

Open Planet Ideas, Sony’s online community platform for collaborative technology solutions to critical environmental issues was named as winner of the Communicating Sustainability category. This category recognises creative communications campaigns that have actively engaged consumers and demonstrably driven sustainable behaviours.

The inaugural Guardian Sustainable Business Awards, hosted at the Guardian’s Central London headquarters, seek to establish best practice business sustainability initiatives. They aim to showcase genuine innovation in corporate sustainability and recognise and reward those who integrate sustainability to the very heart of their business.

The judges of the Awards were looking for ground-breaking projects that demonstrated a holistic application to sustainability principles, genuinely pushing the boundaries.

Sony’s Open Planet Ideas project was praised for being brave and innovative, whilst embracing collaboration to engage consumers and drive change.

Emily Nicoll, general manager of environmental communications, Sony Europe, said: “Sony Europe is thrilled to be recognised by the Guardian’s Sustainable Business Awards, for excellence in communicating sustainability. Open Planet Ideas has been a really exciting project, one that has brought together a raft of ideas and skill sets from across the world. It really does go to show what can be achieved when you bring together the minds of many.”

Sony competed against O2 (Eco-Rating project) and Recyclebank (Waste Not, Want Not campaign) in the Communicating Sustainability category.
