Belkin Applauds Adoption of the US Green Button Initiative
(Playa Vista, CA) - March 22, 2012 - Belkin applauds the utilities across the nation joining California's PG&E, San Diego Gas and Electric, and Southern California Edison in joining the White House-inspired, industry-led Green Button initiative. The Green Button initiative aims to give electricity customers easy, secure access to their own detailed household energy usage information via the Internet. The initiative also sets a simple standard for the way data is reported, spurring the development of private sector tools that use the data to help consumers track energy use and save money.
"At Belkin, we believe in the potential of technology to empower consumers. Knowledge is power. When consumers have access to their energy data, it enables them to make behavioral changes that can add up to significant savings in both energy usage and monthly bills," said Chet Pipkin, founder and CEO of Belkin. "We are excited by the growing success of the Green Button initiative and look forward to working with the standard in Belkin products in the near future. It's a win-win for all parties."
With the acquisition of clean energy company Zensi in 2010 and the introduction of its Conserve line of energy management products, Belkin is committed to creating simple, effective energy management tools that make it easy for consumers to become more energy efficient in their homes and offices. The Green Button initiative reinforces Belkin's belief that technology will play a major role in driving consumer behavior change and reducing our country's collective energy consumption and costs.
