Buffalo ships first portable dual-interface Thunderbolt HDD to EMEA

MiniStationTM Thunderbolt provides industry leading on-the-move transfer speeds for efficient storage and backup

LONDON, SEPTEMBER 4 2012: Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of storage and wireless networking solutions, is today announcing it is shipping the world's first portable ThunderboltTM and USB 3.0 dual-interface HDD solution across EMEA. Buffalo's new MiniStationTM Thunderbolt portable hard drive provides transfer speeds of up to10Gbps, double those provided by USB 3.0 alone.

The device is currently compatible with all Apple MacBook and Mac computers, soon to be joined by a host of Windows PC manufacturers such as Lenovo, HP, Sony and Acer, who are all launching machines that adopt Thunderbolt compatibility. The MiniStation Thunderbolt is ideal for PC and Mac users requiring the fastestpossible interface speeds while preserving backward compatibility with devices that support USB 2.0 or 3.0. Paul Hudson, Buffalo's Sales Director for Northern Europe, says: "Our market research has repeatedly found there is no portable Thunderbolt HDD on the market of this type, even though computer users are demanding it and are increasingly turning to laptop devices. The launch of Buffalo's MiniStation Thunderbolt, which is the first to incorporate USB3.0 dual interface, fills this gap in the market with industry leading technology that reaffirms our pioneering spirit and engineering excellence."

The MiniStation Thunderbolt has an aesthetically pleasing, sophisticated design, with a sleek aluminium body complemented by a transparent frosted top and an indirect disk access LED indicator that tastefully illuminates the device. As well as being a great portable storage device for both PC and Mac users, the MiniStation Thunderbolt is also compatible with Mac OS X Time Machine, making it the perfect solution for backing up Mac devices.

Hudson adds: "This is the world's first device to couple the universal 5 GBps super speed USB 3.0 port for legacy support with the 10 GBps Thunderbolt technology developed by Intel® to deliver maximum interface speeds and compatibility. This enables consumers to now move digital content faster, simplify connections between their devices, maintain compatibility with nearly any device and foster new and exciting ways to use portable storage."
