The Creators Project Dramatically Expands in 2011; Launches Major Studio to Produce World's Leading Artists

The Creators Project, a global cultural initiative by VICE and Intel Corporation, is evolving significantly in 2011 with the launch of a major studio that will produce multimedia works with leading and emerging artists, musicians, filmmakers and designers from across the world. Continuing after its smash debut in 2010, The Creators Project will empower the next generation of innovators through technology.

Launching today, The Studio will transform The Creators Project in 2011 from a celebration of creativity into a true patron of the arts. The Studio is a multi-million-dollar global studio that produces and distributes works from artists representing a cross-section of creative disciplines. It will release albums, artwork and films while providing artists with resources and new technology. The works will then be distributed by The Studio through a variety of channels including traveling international exhibits, museums, concerts and such digital platforms as TheCreatorsProject.com. Participants will retain intellectual property rights.

Throughout 2011, The Studio, operating out of VICE’s international offices, will amass a diverse network of creators and works that will be accessible to millions.

"We created The Studio because the status quo in media right now is a tragedy,” said Vice Founder Shane Smith. “Whether it's in film, music or the fine arts, a lack of access to production and distribution has left some young artists disenfranchised and frustrated. The Creators Project created The Studio to show the world that there is another model for supporting creativity, a model where the artist and the artwork come first. To show our commitment we will produce and distribute artworks globally while allowing The Studio artists to own, forever, any of the work that they create for us."

"We're thrilled to return as part of The Creators Project in 2011 and to have the opportunity to work with The Studio in recreating the main stage of Coachella as an evolving sculpture,” said United Visual Artists (UVA). “The Studio promises to be a fresh and open way of enabling young artists to break through to large international audiences through new commissions and touring projects, and we look forward to seeing it grow."

At Coachella, The Studio will partner with major acts like Interpol (U.S.) to transform their sets into technologically advanced and dramatic multimedia visual experiences. The Studio will also work with returning Creators United Visual Artists (UK) to redesign Coachella’s main stage. Using a combination of integrated lighting technologies, UVA's iconic sculpture will unfold, reveal and evolve over the three days, creating a dynamic canvas for live performances.

The Studio will partner with esteemed UK film director Jonathan Glazer and UK band Spiritualized to produce an experimental light and sound installation. The piece, titled "Meet Me in the Chorus," is part of The Studio's collection of highly advanced art installations on Coachella’s grounds. It will then travel the world as part of The Creators Project international event series.

The Studio’s body of works will continue to expand throughout the year. Renowned fashion designer Hussein Chalayan (UK) and The Studio will partner for his upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 fashion show to be held during Paris Fashion week this October. The partnership will showcase Hussein's latest collection and will be documented on TheCreatorsProject.com.

The Brazilian rap sensation and returning Creator Emicida (Brazil) will work with The Studio to produce, release and distribute his new album. And, filmmaker Barnaby Clay (US) will collaborate with legendary rock photographer Mick Rock (US) on a traveling video installation.

Deborah Conrad, Intel vice president and chief marketing officer, said, “We knew we had a great idea last year when we worked with Vice to kick off The Creators Project, but we didn’t really quite wrap our heads around the magnitude of the global appetite for innovation. This comes from the collision of art and technology. Last year, we celebrated a new generation of creative and artistic geniuses. And in our second year, we’ll continue the celebration, but evolve the program to become a patron for the creative process, such as adding The Studio and a partnership with Coachella. We’re going bigger, better, richer and deeper in 2011 to empower even more creators in unimaginable ways. Prepare to be wowed.”

The Creators Project TV Series
New this year is the premiere of The Creators Project TV series that will feature 30-minute in-depth documentaries on select creators. The series debuts Feb. 23 with an episode on Interpol (US). The 12-part series will air first on TheCreatorsProject.com and will then be syndicated to major cable networks across the world. Additional short-form pieces will cover Academy Award winning film collective H5 (FR), and artists Quayola (UK), Feng Mengbo (PRC), and Taeyoon Choi (KR)

International Event Series

The Creators Project’s international event series in 2011 is expanding its event line-up, with Paris and Lyon joining, as well as return hosts New York, Sao Paulo, Seoul and Beijing. Due to popular demand, the events, which last year brought thousands of people together for live concerts, art exhibits, film screenings and panel discussions, will be extended to multi-day creative summits versus the one-day events held in 2010.

About The Creators Project
Launched in 2010, The Creators Project is an ongoing multi-year program that is dedicated to identifying leading artists and enabling them to showcase their works and artistic visions through technology and interactive media. The program includes The Studio, an international event series, a documentary TV series, multi-disciplinary collaborative projects and the video website.

In just 1 year, The Creators Project has become a cultural phenomenon. Tens of thousands of guests have attended the events, and the content was viewed over 55 million times online.

The project unites a vast collection of artists, designers, musicians and filmmakers who are using technology to push the bounds of creative expression. To date, there are more than 100 Creators involved, hailing mostly from seven countries (United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Brazil, South Korea and China) along with other artists from around the world.

Netgear upgrades its Premium Wireless Router! The new Premium N600 Wireless Dual-Band Gigabit WNDR3800 Router from Netgear

This is Netgear's high-end, noncompromising consumer wireless router that has two USB ports to host printers and external storage devices. The router offers what the WNDR3700 had, plus a handful of new features, including:

Readability Remote: a feature that allows users to access their data on a USB external storage device attached to the router from any Mac, PC, smartphone or tablet over the Internet.

ReadyShare Printer: the USB ports now support multifunction printers, meaning you can not only print from any networked computer (both wired and wireless) but also do other functions, such as scanning or faxing.

Quick Start, Steady Stream HD: A new feature that helps stream HD videos stored on a connected USB storage device faster, both in terms of starting up and reduction of buffering delay during the playback. This feature works both with the locally connected devices and over the Internet.

Clear Channel Selector: The router is now capable of automatically and dynamically avoiding busy Wi-Fi channels by detecting the least used one and switching to it when all connections are idle.

Other than that, the new WNDR3800 is a true dual-band router, meaning it can offer two wireless networks, one in the 2.4Ghz frequency band and the other in the 5Ghz frequency band at the same time. It has guest networking, which allows for creating separate wireless networks for guests.

For those who want to have more control over the Internet usage, the new router features Live Parental Controls, a Web-filtering feature first introduced with Netgear's WNR2000 router. There's also a broadband usage meter.

For its network storage functionality, the WNDR3800 is is DLNA-certified, has an option to extend TiVo storage, and is compatible with OS 10's Time Machine for Macs' backup. Netgear also claims that it's the first among routers of its type to offer one of the highest USB access speeds thanks to a powerful processor that runs at 680 MHz.

Meet the New Toshiba Laptops: Pure Portable Power!

Presenting Toshiba's brand new Portégé and Satellite laptops for 2011. Building on last year's super slim, super powerful models, these machines are stacked to the brim with the latest hardware and connections to meet any requirements, whether you're a remote worker, casual web browser or high flying exec. Read on to meet them all, and see some exclusive up close hands on photos.

Toshiba Portégé R830
The follow up to last year's incredible Portégé R700 13-inch productivity powerhouse, the Toshiba Portégé R830 keeps the sleek, superlight form factor, and pimps up the internals to give you even more speed. It houses a second gen Intel Core processor, up to an enormous 8GB of DDR memory and 640GB hard drive. Toshiba's clever cooling tech meanwhile keeps everything humming over nicely while allowing for an impressive battery life of up to 14 hours.

Toshiba's not forgotten to keep all the ports that made the thin and light Portégé R700 such a success: you'll find options for a DVD drive, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 3.0 and even HDMI-out for screen sharing made easy, on the Toshiba Portégé R830. Check out the photos of it here in our gallery:

Toshiba Tecra R840
Like the Portégé R830, you can expect all the latest tech and connectivity equipment stuffed inside the Toshiba Tecra R840. That means a brand new Intel second-gen Core processor with up to 8GB of RAM and a capacious 640GB hard drive for you to store all your media and photos as well as your work files.

The difference is the size: that extra inch really makes a difference for pounding out important documents and touch typing at speed - and there's little in the way of compromise since the battery still runs for an epic eight hours on a charge.

Toshiba Satellite Pro R850 and Toshiba Tecra R850
Not content with keeping all that power in the 13-inch line, Toshiba's expanded up to its 15-inch models in the more business oriented Tecra and Satellite lines. Once again, you're looking at all those connections, and a second gene intel Core processor for blazing performance, but you'll also get a bigger screen with a sharp, LED backlit 1,366x768 resolution display.

There's also the option for a solid state drive to store all your documents and media, in place of a traditional hard drive, to give you a further speed boost working on the go. Check out the photos of the 15-inch form factor here in our gallery. As you can see, it's supremely thin and light, with a gorgeous enclosure.

Toshiba glasses-free 3D Laptop coming this year!

Toshiba has been dabbling in glasses-free 3D TV for a while now, but today at the company’s UK Spring launch, we got a peek at a glasses-free 3D laptop, or auto-steroscopic if you want to get technical on us.

The twist is the laptop is capable of tracking your eyes via the webcam (which will use infra-red in the dark too), and adjusting the angle for the parallax accordingly, so you see a 3D picture wherever you move – which incidentally can use the full screen, or show in a window on an otherwise 2D desktop, which is a nice touch. Read on for the details and photos.

We tried out the Toshiba glasses-free 3D laptop concept on an existing Toshiba Qosmio laptop hacked and tweaked to run it in Toshiba’s labs, and can vouch for its ability to track your movement, though it does switch to 2D for a few seconds when you move, which is rather jarring. Still, we’d hope this should be made more seamless in the run up to launch: Toshiba says a retail glasess-free 3D laptop will be out some time this year – in the meantime, check out the photos here, and find out more about Toshiba’s current 3D laptop that works with specs over on Toshiba Life.

Seagate Tops 1 Million Mark In Shipments Of Self-Encrypting Hard Drives For Laptop PC's And Data Center Servers

Customer adoption swells as more computer makers ship systems powered by Seagate® SEDs, Seagate’s security alliances grow, and more SEDs win key government certification.

Seagate today announced that it has shipped more than 1 million self-encrypting laptop and enterprise hard drives. Sales of the Seagate® hard drives with built-in encryption continue to surge as more computer makers offer the drives to protect against unauthorized access to sensitive data, more independent software vendors team up with Seagate to provide the management capabilities required for company-wide installations of self-encrypting laptop PCs, and more of the drives win U.S. government certifications:

Seagate's Cheetah Self-Encrypting Drive

Six original equipment manufacturers – Dell, Fujitsu, Hitachi, IBM, LSI and Network Appliance – now offer products powered by Seagate enterprise self-encrypting drives (SEDs). All told, Seagate now ships 24 products in a family of enterprise drives that includes Savvio®, Cheetah®, Constellation® ES and Constellation® SEDs.

Dell, Lenovo and Panasonic are shipping or qualifying standard-sized or thin laptops with Seagate Momentus® and Momentus® Thin SEDs as optional features.

Seagate’s independent software vendor (ISV) partnerships have grown to include security leaders Credant, McAfee, Mobile Armor, Secude, Softex, Symantec, Wave Systems and WinMagic. With management software from these providers, organizations can easily and affordably manage and protect encryption keys and passwords to simplify deployments of Momentus and Momentus Thin SEDs.

Seagate’s family of Savvio, Cheetah, Constellation and Momentus SEDs have secured FIPS 140-2 certification from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This key government certification clears the way for deployments of Seagate self-encrypting drives by all U.S. and Canadian federal agencies, many state and local governments, and regulated industries such as healthcare, finance and defense required to use FIPS-certified gear to help protect sensitive data on PCs and computer networks and in data centers. The Seagate laptop and enterprise hard drives are the first with native encryption to earn the FIPS certification.

Dell and Panasonic now offer laptops featuring FIPS-certified Momentus SEDs.

Several major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are now qualifying Momentus SEDs that are compliant with the Trusted Computing Group’s Opal specification. The Trusted Computing Group, an international body that promotes open standards for computer security, issued the Opal specification in 2009. The specification is focused on enabling the ecosystem for self-encrypting drives and increasing their adoption.

Seagate enterprise SED shipments have tripled over the past two quarters, while the company’s laptop SED shipments have doubled in each of the past three years.

“Companies and government organizations worldwide increasingly are securing confidential information on self-encrypting hard drives, recognizing that this commonsense yet powerful approach simplifies the deployment of security for data at rest,” said Charles Kolodgy, research director of security products for analyst group IDC. “As storage and security continue to converge, solutions like Seagate’s self-encrypting hard drives are leading the way by providing organizations with the strong, easy-to-use security they need to protect their data assets.”

Seagate® Enterprise Self-Encrypting Drives Deliver Government-Grade Security
Seagate offers a full lineup of enterprise SED options within its Savvio, Cheetah, and Constellation families. Strong enough for national security, yet easy enough for the one-person IT department, Seagate enterprise SEDs simplify decommissioning and preserve hardware value for returns and repurposing by eliminating the need to overwrite or physically destroy the drive, securing warranty and expired lease returns, and enabling drives to be repurposed securely.

Laptop Lockdown with Momentus® Self-Encrypting Drives

Momentus® SEDs give organizations of all sizes a simple, cost-effective way to protect against unauthorized access to data on notebook PCs and a powerful tool for complying with the growing number of data privacy laws calling for the protection of consumer information using government-grade encryption. The AES encryption chip in the Momentus SEDs automatically and transparently encrypts all drive data, not just selected files or partitions. The 2.5-inch drive also eliminates disk initialization and configuration required by encryption software, allows IT administrators to instantly erase all data cryptographically so the drive can be quickly and easily redeployed, and delivers full inline-speed encryption with no impact to system performance.

Momentus SEDs keep all security keys and cryptographic operations within the drive, separating them from the operating system to provide greater protection against hacking and tampering than traditional software alternatives, which can give thieves backdoor access to encryption keys and are otherwise more vulnerable to key theft. Momentus SEDs are offered in capacities up to 500GB.

Now Available! New Seagate iPhone App For GoFlex TV And FreeAgent Theater+ HD Media Players!

New App Enables Control of GoFlex™ TV or FreeAgent Theater+™ HD Media Players From Anywhere in the Home Using an Apple iPhone® iPad® or iPod Touch® via Wi-Fi

Today Seagate (NASDAQ: STX) announced that its Seagate® TV Remote application has been approved and is now available for download from the iTunes Store®. This easy-to-use application can be found by searching for "Seagate" or "GoFlex" in the iTunes store from either your computer or from the app store on your iPad®, iPhone® or iPod Touch®. Use of the application requires installation of the latest GoFlex™ TV HD media player or FreeAgent Theater+™ HD media player firmware, which can be accessed and downloaded from the support site on www.seagate.com to either of the two HD media players as long as the device is located in the US¹.

The new Seagate® TV Remote application for your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch has been approved and is now available for download from the iTunes store.

The new Seagate TV Remote app enables control of a GoFlex TV or FreeAgent Theater+ product from anywhere in the home using an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch via Wi-Fi. The app interface resembles the existing media player’s infrared remote controls, making it a familiar easy-to-use device. Additionally, because the app leverages the home Wi-Fi network, there is no need for line-of-sight between the HD media player and the controller, allowing it to be used anywhere within the home.

An added benefit of the new app is that current owners of Seagate’s media players will now be able to leverage the keyboard on their Apple® mobile device to enter text into search fields when using Internet services such as YouTube, Netflix and Pandora, simply by pressing an onscreen button. With the TV Remote app, people can now see a display of all the files stored on the external hard drives connected to GoFlex TV or FreeAgent Theater+ HD media players, which provides a convenient alternative way to view the files stored on the drive. The new TV Remote app also allows the navigation of photos stored on the Apple mobile device in order to send them over the network to the drive attached to either media player. The photos will be saved to the drive and automatically displayed on the TV in full resolution. The TV Remote app will also work with every Seagate media player on the network. The new Seagate app will automatically scan a Wi-Fi network for any available GoFlex TV or FreeAgent Theater+ HD media players.

¹Firmware version 2.23 is required. FreeAgent Theater HD media player is also support for the Seagate TV Remote.

The perfect choice for aspiring photographers looking for a combination of outstanding image quality and ease-of-use, the EOS 600D sits at the top of Canon’s entry-level EOS line-up, above the existing EOS 550D and the new EOS 1100D.

Capturing stunning images and Full HD video has never been easier, thanks to a range of automatic shooting modes that beginners can use to instantly express their creativity. A Feature Guide has been added to the user interface to help you learn about the camera as you use it, helping to develop your photography skills. With an unrivalled range of EF lenses, Speedlites and other accessories to enhance your shooting, the EOS system holds the key to the perfect shot – wherever your journey takes you, and whatever the scene before you.

First-class image quality

The EOS 600D provides all the tools to capture beautiful stills and HD movies. Amazing picture detail is provided by a high-resolution 18 Megapixel (MP) APS-C CMOS sensor, which combines with 14-bit DIGIC 4 processing so you can capture the wonder of a beautiful blue sky and enjoy exceptionally smooth gradients between colours. The camera’s low light shooting capability enables you to achieve clear, natural images in darker conditions, with an ISO range of 100-6400 that can be further expanded to 12800.

Great for shooting pets, children or wildlife, the EOS 600D allows high-speed shooting at 3.7 frames per second (fps), enabling you to capture fast-moving action. Each shot will be captured in sharp detail thanks to the 9-point Auto Focus system, which can track subjects using the auto focus points across the frame. Even more accurate focusing is providing by an extra-sensitive central AF Sensor, while the iFCL Metering system from the semi-professional EOS 7D features a 63-zone Dual-layer metering sensor, helping you to ensure your shot is correctly exposed, even in difficult lighting conditions.

Easy shooting, amazing resultsNew fully-automatic Scene Intelligent Auto mode makes it easy for you to capture outstanding quality shots with almost no effort. Allowing you to focus exclusively on framing your picture, Scene Intelligent Auto analyses the scene for you and automatically picks the best settings to capture it. Your images will look better than ever thanks to a new ‘Auto’ Picture Style, which automatically makes fine adjustments to colours while you focus on capturing the scene you want.

The EOS 600D also makes it easy for you to instantly add creativity to your pictures. Change the atmosphere of a scene with Basic+, which allows you to pick the mood you want to achieve from one of eight options, including ‘Warm’, ‘Cool’ or ‘Intense’. Whether you’re shooting landscapes, portraits, or close-up macro shots, Basic+ makes it easy to capture the perfect image.

Simple, flexible, artistic

Ideal for beginners, a Feature Guide has been added to the EOS 600D’s menu system, offering a brief description of each key setting and its effect, helping you learn more about the camera as you use it.

You can also shoot overhead, at ground level or around corners with the EOS 600D’s Vari-angle 7.7cm 3:2 ratio ClearView LCD. Rich on-screen detail is provided in 1.04 million-dot resolution, and the side-mounted hinge allows users to comfortably and creatively shoot from a range of unusual angles, or when using a tripod. A smudge-resistant fluorine coating and three anti-reflection coatings also ensure you can see the LCD in clear detail, wherever you are.

Allowing you to apply your own stamp to your shots, the EOS 600D is perfect for experimenting with different Creative Filters. Fish-eye-Effect creates a barrel-shaped distortion similar to a fish-eye lens, and you can instantly turn a scene into a small-scale model with Miniature Effect. Toy Camera Effect, Grainy B/W and Soft Focus offer additional options, allowing you to experiment with your images in a number of different ways.

Capture stunning detail with EOS movie
Capture your memories in superb clarity with Full HD (1080p) movie mode, while a dedicated movie shooting mode means you can switch between stills and HD video instantly. You can also reach distant subjects using new Movie Digital Zoom function, which crops the centre of the sensor from 3x to 10x while still maintaining Full HD quality – great for capturing wildlife on a safari holiday.

Enabling you to capture more engaging videos, Video Snapshot mode shoots video in two, four, or eight second segments, creating clips that are short, easy to edit and of similar lengths to clips used in most TV programmes. As they are recorded, the clips are saved to a Video Snapshot Album and combined into one movie. A soundtrack can be added by choosing from tracks uploaded to the camera and the result viewed on the camera’s LCD, or on an HDTV via the built-in mini HDMI connection.

The EOS system – unrestricted creativity
As your skills develop, the EOS 600D grows with you. As part of Canon’s EOS range, the camera is compatible with the unrivalled selection of EF lenses and a range of accessories, so you can add to your kitbag as your ability and style develops. Over 60 lenses provide you with unlimited creative possibilities: wide-angle lenses capture sweeping landscapes, macro lenses capture the most intricate beauty of the tiniest creatures, and telephoto lenses make distant scenes appear as if they are right in front of you.

Using Canon’s range of Speedlite flashes and the EOS 600D’s Integrated Speedlite Transmitter, you can also experiment with different lighting techniques, or use your flash off-camera, to give your subject or scene a completely different look and feel. Allowing photographers of all levels to discover the power of image, each new addition offers the outstanding image quality, ease of use and versatility synonymous with EOS – encouraging more photographers to turn to Canon for their next photography adventure.

Two easy-to-use, entry-level DSLRs - the EOS 600D and the EOS 1100D - offer new levels of flexibility, imaging performance and support to consumers taking their first steps into the world of photography. The new EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM and EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM offer outstanding super-telephoto performance for sports and wildlife photographers, while a new EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II kit lens offers the perfect start for photography beginners. A duo of new flashguns, the Speedlite 320EX and the Speedlite 270EX II, also encourage users to experiment with creative and off-camera lighting techniques.

Your EOS adventure starts here

Sitting at the top of Canon’s entry-level DSLR portfolio, the EOS 600D features a class-leading, 18 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, fast DIGIC 4 image processing and Full HD video capture – allowing photographers to switch seamlessly between high-quality still images and video. Scenes can be shot from any angle thanks to a 7.7cm Vari-Angle Clear View LCD screen – allowing EOS 600D owners to view their world from a different perspective. A 9-point Auto Focus system also ensures that subjects are in-focus, no matter where it is in the frame.

The EOS 600D also includes a new Feature Guide that offers those new to photography a guide to camera modes and main settings, allowing them to improve their photographic skills every time they take a photo. A new Scene Intelligent Auto mode also offers point-and-shoot simplicity, analysing each scene and adjusting settings to take the best possible image, while you focus on your subject. New Picture Style Auto processes the image based on the scene, making your images more engaging.

The EOS 1100D is the ideal beginner’s EOS, combining a high-performance specification with exceptional ease-of-use. A 12.2 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor means EOS 1100D owners can shoot photos up to A3 size, or crop images to create more interesting compositions. The EOS 1100D also features the same iFCL Metering system developed for the EOS 7D, linked to the 9-point AF system to ensure all subjects are in-focus and well-exposed in all lighting conditions. For those who wish to shoot video and stills, the EOS 1100D also offers 720p HD video capture for even more flexibility.

Making it even easier for EOS 1100D users to capture truly artistic shots, Basic+ and Creative Auto modes remove any confusing technical terms, using plain language to describe settings and their effect on an image. Users can also apply different atmospheres to a scene based on the creative intent or lighting type, or, alternatively, make images lighter, darker or blur the background to create more interesting results.

Complementing the new models is the new

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II, which replaces the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS in Canon’s lens portfolio. Offering aspiring photographers reliability and versatility, this lightweight lens features a 4-stop IS advantage – shooting any scene from sweeping landscapes to portraits with excellent clarity.

L-series telephoto lenses – shoot further and faster

First seen at Photokina in September 2010, the EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM and EF 600mm f/4L IS II USM are ground-breaking additions to Canon’s professional L-series, offering wildlife and sports photographers unparalleled performance and mobility. Featuring the highest quality optics and advanced coatings to counter flare and ghosting, both have been designed with a strong, magnesium alloy body, offering a significant weight reduction over their predecessors. Rapid, silent autofocus (AF) is enabled by the ring-type USM, and professionals can fine-tune any scene with full-time manual focusing.

Both lenses offer a wide constant aperture of f/4, delivering excellent image quality in low light or when shooting fast-moving subjects. Canon’s latest Image Stabilizer also ensures outstanding image quality during handheld shooting, allowing users to shoot at speeds up for four times slower than normally required. New algorithms improve performance when panning, and a new IS Mode 3 makes it easy to track randomly moving subjects in the viewfinder by activating the IS unit only during exposure.

Explore creative lighting

The new Speedlite 320EX and Speedlite 270EX II enable photographers of all levels to experiment with creative lighting when shooting everyday subjects. With Guide numbers of 32 and 27 respectively, both Speedlites are compatible with Canon’s distance-linked E-TTL II system and can be used either on-camera or as slave units within a wireless set-up. Both flashes can remotely trigger the shutter release of compatible EOS DSLRs, allowing users to adjust the position of the flash and trigger the camera quickly and easily. The Speedlite 320EX also offers a constant Video Light mode, allowing EOS Movie users to continue shooting through the evening and into the night.

The EOS 1100D also makes it easier to shoot and instantly share your images and HD video with friends and family. The large 6.8cm (2.7”) LCD screen features a sharp 230k-dot resolution and wide viewing angle, making it easy to review the day’s shoot immediately. Alternatively, sit back and enjoy the big-screen image playback by connecting the EOS 1100D directly to an HDTV via HDMI, using the TV remote control to scroll through images and enjoy your own high-quality video.

Thanks to support for Eye-Fi Connected Functions[1], EOS 1100D users can wirelessly transfer their images to a home PC or bypass this stage completely and upload images and video direct to an online sharing account like the CANON iMAGE GATEWAY or Flickr – inspiring everyone to share special, fun and creative photography.

From beginners to pros, the EOS system is used the world over
Designed as a user-friendly, powerful, entry-level DSLR, the EOS 1100D features an impressive specification to support the image quality and performance promised by the Canon and EOS brands.

A 12.2 Megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor enables A3 size images to be recorded or cropped for exciting compositions, without compromising on image quality or print size, while DIGIC 4 image processing allows you to freeze the action with high-speed shooting at 3 frames per second[2]. Low light subjects can be captured with minimal noise and without resorting to using a flash thanks to a sensitive ISO range of 100 – 6400, and the fast, accurate nine-point autofocus (AF) system ensures the subject is in focus no matter where they may stand in the frame. The EOS 1100D also uses the same iFCL metering system developed for the semi-professional EOS 7D, ensuring all subjects are well-exposed, even in the most challenging lighting conditions.

The EOS 1100D will be available with a new addition to Canon’s range of EF lenses. The EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II is a new kit lens that offers EOS 1100D users the flexibility to shoot everything from sweeping landscapes to portraits. A lightweight construction means it’s easy to carry, and Canon’s acclaimed optical Image Stabilization offers a 4-stop advantage to ensure sharp images at maximum zoom and when shooting in low light. The new EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II will succeed the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS in Canon’s current lens portfolio.

Google Introducing the Android Market Website

Over the past two years, developers around the world have helped make Android Market the go-to place for more than 100,000 apps, games and widgets. Previously, you could only access Android Market directly from your device, but today, we are introducing the Android Market website that lets you browse and search for great apps right from your web browser.

The website makes it easy to discover great new apps with a bigger, brighter interface. You can also send apps directly to your Android device with just a few clicks—no wires needed. We’ve built in new social features, too. You can share apps with your friends through Twitter. And you can read and post app reviews directly to Android Market from the web or from your device.

And what about all those apps you’ve already purchased and downloaded? Sign in to the website with your Google account and click “My Market Account” to see all the apps you’ve purchased or downloaded. It makes managing all your apps quite easy.

The Android Market website was officially unveiled today during an event at Google headquarters where we showcased Honeycomb (Android 3.0), our latest Android release built from the ground up for tablets. Honeycomb has a completely redesigned user interface, with more interactive notifications and widgets, improved multi-tasking, and the latest and greatest Google Mobile services optimized for tablets.

Netgear unveils wireless for the post-PC era - aimed at homes stuffed with internet TVs and tablets!

Netgear has unveiled a series of new products at CES that are designed for the growing number of non-PC devices being added to home networks.

The company announced eight new products, most of which are tailored towards delivering high-definition video to internet-enabled TVs and mobile devices.

Netgear's CEO and founder, Patrick Lo, said the days of PCs dominating home networking were over. "This year is the tipping point," he said. "Before we were primarily connecting PCs, now we're primarily connecting mobile and internet devices. The technical requirement is totally different."

Several of the company's new devices are designed to deliver simultaneous HD streams to different devices in the home. The 3DHD Wireless Home Theatre Network Kit, for example, will deliver three "jitter-free" 1080p streams without wires, according to the company. It sports four receivers and transmitters (4x4 MIMO) to deliver the HD content to devices such as tablets, internet TVs and PCs in different rooms.

The company claimed that one of the biggest problems with internet TVs is that they demand wired Ethernet connections, but the home's main router isn't in the living room with the television.

Consequently, it's released a Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender, which not only "effectively doubles your Wi-Fi range" when placed at the edge of your existing router's coverage, but also sports an Ethernet port that can be used for devices such as those wire-only internet TVs. The Range Extender works with any wireless router, and is a compact unit that simply plugs into a wall power socket.

Netgear's also updated its range of powerline networking products, including what it claims is the first 500Mbits/sec powerline adapter with four ports - the HomePlug-certified Internet Adapter for Home Theatre. Meanwhile, the N300 Wireless Router with Powerline AV combines both Wi-Fi and powerline networking for users who want the best of both worlds.

For users looking to back-up all of this HD content swilling around their home network, the ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Home Media Server will co-ordinate backups from every PC in the home, as well as acting as a DLNA-certified home server.

NEW Kyocera Mita Workgroup Colour Printers deliver Environmental Advantages!

KYOCERA MITA UK today launched two A4 ECOSYS colour printers with a strong focus on reducing environmental impact. The FS-C5150DN and FS-C5250DN benefit from ergonomic design and a small physical footprint, making them ideal for busy offices where space is at a premium. Both devices incorporate KYOCERA MITA’s low waste, economical ECOSYS technology, plus integrated accounting and application based profiling features, ensuring that they are a sound investment for any organisation.

Environmental performance was a key focus area during the development of the new printers. Power consumption has been significantly reduced in comparison with the preceding models, leading to an attractively low TEC rating which is an important factor for organisations aiming to lower their energy consumption. Both devices utilise positively charged rollers which prevent ozone generation in operation, while noise generation has been significantly reduced thanks to enhancements to the drum engine and paper transportation system. This allows the devices to be sited conveniently close to user workstations without the distraction of excessive operation noise or emissions.

The FS-C5150DN and FS-C5250DN support application based profiling. The KX printer driver can be configured to stipulate that jobs from specific applications, for example, email, are printed according to a predefined print policy such as mandatory duplex and mono-only output. This reduces toner and paper consumption. The new printers also benefit from integrated accounting functionality, with 100 department codes that can be allocated to users to improve accountability for print volumes and assist with cost reduction initiatives.

Steve Mitchell, Group Product Manager at KYOCERA MITA commented: “When developing these printers we focused heavily on enhancing environmental performance, usability and output quality. By incorporating technology and functionality from our higher end devices we have created two products that succeed in all three areas while still maintaining our customary emphasis on cost-effective printing.”

The FS-C5150DN and FS-C5250DN deliver crisp 600dpi quality documents at 21 and 26ppm respectively, which combines with a short warm up time of approx. 29-32 seconds and fast first page of only 9 - 12 seconds to provide users with fast access to their printed output.
